In a review on February 12 entitled The Lady’s Wild, kernermichael wrote, “There honestly has beena strong lack of great songs out there right now. So, there have been a few newcomers that really have caught a strong eye lately, and Lady Antebellum has honestly been a huge surprise. Their latest single Need You Now is a simple and straight-forward Country crossover that handles well. I really was surprised about the song. It really isn’t a bad song to listen to, and a great escape from acts like Rihanna, and Beyonce’ who’ve been a bit overexposed on radio. I’m really eager to hear what they have coming up next for their next single. Hopefully, it can be something just as great and something that fans will need them for soon.
Song: B” This listener gave Need You Now a 4 star rating.
On February 11, this reviewer said: “I first saw Lady Antebellum as a lead opening for a major star and new immediately that they would be successful on their own. The harmony between the vocals is excellent and the songs really fit the group. To me “Need you Know” is just about the best song they have done to date. It is a beautiful melody and I could (and do) listen to it every day.” This person named their review Lady Antebellum and they gave Need You Now a 5 star rating.

You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift

You Belong With Me finds itself at #3 on our list and has achieved a solid ranking in our list of top 100 country songs. Does this song deserve its place on the list? Read these reviews and find out!
In a review on March 08 entitled This is Not the Pop Version, greenbeard1996 wrote, “Please be warned. This is not the version heard on pop radio. This is the country version. I don’t know where you find the pop version.” This listener gave You Belong With Me a 2 star rating.
On February 02, this reviewer said: “Fresh from a young talented singer/songwriter but not what I would consider to be a classic years from now. ” This person named their review Fresh and Light and they gave You Belong With Me a 4 star rating.
In a review on November 11 entitled Swift resonates even with a 30-something Mamma, malibulj wrote, “kept hearing this song every way I go - you belong to meeee- finally discovered it is Taylor Swift, listen to a few snippets and download her disc. Excellent- reminds me of my teen years and in some ways of my current life and I thoroughly enjoy her lyrics and music. 1st new artist in some time that has piqued my interest- refreshing - brava!” This listener gave You Belong With Me a 4 star rating.
On October 10, this reviewer said: ” I do not understand the obsession with mediocrity in American pop culture today. The country music industry in Nashville is now taking it’s cues from mainstream pop music. They are finding “artists” who are pretty with mediocre talent whom they can market to the pre-teen & teen audience. Taylor Swift is one of these artists.
I heard this song on the radio and could not believe the total lack of vocal ability. Her voice has no range. It is strained, thin, nasally, and frequently out of tune. It was pretty painful, and, at the same time, funny, to listen to. The lyrics tell the story of a typical teenage love triangle. They are trite and extremely immature. I can imagine some people thinking: “Hey, give her break. She’s only 19!” May I remind you that Jewel was the same age when she recorded “Pieces of You”. The lyrics on that recording show a lot of maturity and insight. The music is a typical pop song with some pedal steel & a little banjo (plucked like a guitar so it doesn’t sound to “country” to the new audience of country music fans.) A “singer” like Katy Perry would have been comfortable recording this song. Needless to say, I do not understand what the hype is all about regarding Taylor Swift. I think it’s just because she has a pretty face and she seems like a nice, down to earth, girl.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I think the new Nashville has forgotten it’s heritage. It began in the 1950’s when it was trying to meet the challenge of rock n roll by establishing a slicker production style and more pop oriented material. Nashville has finally sold it’s soul to the cult of mass marketing and mediocrity. Taylor Swift is a good example of this.
” This person named their review So this is country music? and they gave You Belong With Me a 1 star rating.
On September 17, this reviewer said: “I have loved Taylor as a very talented singer/songwriter since her debut. She provides a fresh look at love and pain and life that I can relate to even at my ripe ‘old’ age of 50!” This person named their review Great CD, Great Artist and they gave You Belong With Me a 5 star rating.

Toes by Zac Brown Band

Toes enjoys a ranking of #4 and this week is being voted up as one of the top country songs on the radio. Let’s see what others had to say:
On September 03, this reviewer said: “I saw these guys at a small, unamplified venue and they were superb. Great muscicians and good guys. I think the sound engineer must have had to limit Zac’s voice on the recording because you don’t hear the true power of his voice here. Now I’m looking forward to their next album” This person named their review Truly Talented and they gave Toes a 5 star rating.
On July 01, this reviewer said: “Zac Brown is amazing, I am not a huge country fan, but his frist 3 singles are awesome. I saw a preview of the video for this song and it looks crazy, Kid Rock the whole 9. Keep up the good work Zac!! Ha!” This person named their review Great Summer Jam and they gave Toes a 5 star rating.

Why Don’t We Just Dance by Josh Turner

Why Don’t We Just Dance now finds itself at #5 on our list of top country songs.
On February 07, this reviewer said: “I’m new to Country Music. Began listening on my way to work a few months ago. (Became tired of listening to the same old Pop music: boring!) I heard “Would You Go With Me” and heard the name Josh Turner. I had never heard of him, but I thought…”What a magnificent voice!” I thought he must be some old, heavy guy to have a low register voice like that. Anyway, I looked him up online awhile later. OMG, here was this great looking young guy with a sexy voice like that! I became a fan right then.
I love “Why Don’t We Just Dance”. I’m a public school teacher (4th grade) and believe me…many times I feel that way…Why DON’T we just dance? Unfortunately, in this country now there are so many wonderful but challenging children from such dysfunctional families with which I must try to connect and teach every single day.. sometimes I get discouraged. Music like Josh’s gives me hope and lifts my spirits.
His new album, “Haywire” is just WONDERFUL!. What an awesome vocal range this guy has…that sexy low baritone up to a very credible second tenor! Wow! I love it! He just keeps getting better and better. (I’ve listened and downloaded a lot of his older songs.)
I’m a Josh fan…Why DON’T we just dance?” This person named their review WOW! and they gave Why Don’t We Just Dance a 5 star rating.
On January 09, this reviewer said: “Another great song by Josh Turner! Can’t wait till the new CD “Haywire” comes out!” This person named their review Great Song! and they gave Why Don’t We Just Dance a 5 star rating.
On December 12, this reviewer said: “Josh Turner has got to have the sexiest voice in Country music, and he’s not bad to look at either. This song is sexy, catchy and flirty. I love it! In fact, I’ve had it in my head all afternoon and into the evening. His last album, Everything Is Fine, was awesome, so I hope this new one is just as good or better. Definate add if you’re a fan on any level. ” This person named their review Josh Tuner=Yum and they gave Why Don’t We Just Dance a 5 star rating.

Love Story by Taylor Swift

Love Story resides at #7 on our list and is considered by many as the top country song today. Do you consider this a great song? Read what others think and sample the song below!
In a review on January 24 entitled Cute melody and lyrics, wintersongs wrote, “I love this song. I can’t explain how much I love this song. The banjo in the beginning is cute. On September 09, this reviewer said: “I was impressed with this osng, it is different from her other stuff but i still like it, good lyrics good melody , a good all rounder.” This person named their review Talented lyrics and melody and they gave Love Story a 5 star rating.
In a review on September 04 entitled Daddy says, “Get this song for Juliet”, indiana_dad wrote, “The only problem is that my daughter feigns annoyance when I sing along. I’m sure she really loves my additional vocals.” This listener gave Love Story a 5 star rating.
On July 02, this reviewer said: “Hmmm….I can’t decide whether I love this song or I hate it. On one hand, it’s catchy, sweet, and has a cute lil’ story that I love to sing along with, but on the other hand, Taylor’s voice is pretty darn annoying, (and she looks kinda creepy. What’s with the slit-like eyes?)Her vocals are so twangy and grating to the ears, that my eardrums were practically on fire after the song was over. If someone else was singing the song though (like me, with my amazing vocal skills, lol), I wouldn’t have one single problem with it. The part where it goes, “He kneeled to the ground and pulled out a ring and said, ‘marry me, Juliet, you’ll never have ta be alone!”, is, wow, just amazing. I would give this five stars, but I feel the need to dock one, and just give it four, since Taylor’s voice is so dang repulsive. ” This person named their review Cute song….annoying vocals and they gave Love Story a 4 star rating.
In a review on June 04 entitled Cute, but there are others songs by this songwriter I like better…C+, coops11 wrote, “This song is very cute. It’s catchy and hummable.
Since you’ve heard it more than once on the radio, I’m gonna tell you to download “You’re Not Sorry” from the same album.
It’s a slower tune, which is better than Love Story. It’s also catchy (and should have been a single).
3.75 stars = C+
end note: “Our Song” from her self-titled debut is good too (if you don’t have that on your iPod or mp3 player yet).” This listener gave Love Story a 3 star rating.

On June 23, this reviewer said: “This song has a wonderful sound quality. I love listening to this song. It is just some good southern music. It always puts me in a good mood when I am down and I love to listen to the patriotic part. It makes me proud to serve and it always gives me a reminder of all the good things we have, “like a little bit of chicken fried”…
This is a song that all country fans must have.” This person named their review Good times and they gave Chicken Fried a 5 star rating.
On February 03, this reviewer said: “If your looking for a song to play at a family barbeque or just something to play hanging out around a campfire in the middle of the woods, this song’s for you. It’s certain this song is going to be a classic years down the road.
Take for example the following lines from the song-
“And its funny how it`s the simple things in life that mean the most
Not where you live or what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There`s no dollar sign on a piece of mind this I`ve come to know”

American Honey by Lady Antebellum

American Honey now currently holds spot #9 and is considered among the country music top hits by many people. Let’s see what listeners had to say:
In a review on February 27 entitled American Lady, kernermichael wrote, “When I first heard Lady Antebellum recently, I was deeply surprised how good their music really was with their pop hit Need You Now. But, it is honestly very heavy and hard to try and capture the same pop status they’ve shown to cross over into pop. Their second single from their sophmore album, Need You Now doesn’t seem to shine on that strength as well with American Honey. It feels more like it tries to bring in that crossover feeling acts like Taylor Swift and The Dixie Chicks had shown in making that same way into the mainstream. I really thought it was alright, but not deeply as strong as their title track displayed, which was absolutely more to bridge over. Still, I really hope their next single can be even stronger than this one showed.
Song: C+” This listener gave American Honey a 3 star rating.
