First, the lyrics are horrid and unintentially funny.

What the heck?
Next, I hate the way this kid sings. His voice sounds like a robot and he pronounces his words in an anoying way. The beat in the background sounds cheap. This song was created on a computer I’m not kidding.
In conclusion, this is an insult to one man bands who had to work their butts off and didn’t recieve their fame this easily and fast.
Owl City needs to go up and apoligize to Prince and Todd Rundgren who worked hard for their fame and really played all of their intruments. Disgusting!

He’s heard it on the car radio, and the lyrics were easy for him to memorize. I’m just happy that he can listen to a song that’s not about sex, drinking or shooting people — and the bonus is that it’s not Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers, etc.

The singer’s digitalized high breathy voice is annoying as he spews this unimaginative sing-songy exercise in rhyming. It’s just the latest example of how musical audiences have lost their ear for great music with clear, quality voices, pianos, strings, brass, and percussion in favor of cheesy, disposable ditties. It’s all about the gimmicky electronic, over-processed vocals used to disguise the singer’s inability to carry a tune in a bucket. The avoidance of actual musical instruments means that anyone with a Casio keyboard and a less than mediocre voice can crank out a “hit” song. I’d like to hear this guy sing live with a real piano, or some other actual non-electric instrument, and see just how he really sounds. I had to pay attention to the rest of the song. That was then. Now I know all the lyrics. I love this song. It comes with a danceable beat, fun production, and catchy melody. Not being deeply connected to the music world, I had never even heard of “Lady GaGa” before Pandora cheekily popped this song up into my play list. (How can you miss with lines like “Russian roulette is not the same without a gun / and, baby, when it’s love, if it’s not rough it isn’t fun”?) Anyway, onto the song. It’s not that bad really. It’s better than Poker Face but not as catchy as LoveGame. But then again, it’s not as annoying as either after repeated plays either.
It features a beat that could easily have been from the 90s and vocals that again, are OK but seem uninspired and like she doesn’t really care to bring the song to life. I must admit though, I could tolerate hearing this on the radio sometimes like I could tolerate LoveGame. The chorus is pretty decent. It’s not earth-shattering or anything, but it’s really, really tolerable (which I didn’t seem to notice during her VMA’s perfomance). The only thing I could do without is the 90s beat. It almost feels like a Britney throwaway.
But yeah. For current top 40s stuff, it’s not that bad.
3.25 stars would fit it perfectly, but my final rating is a:
3 stars.
