TiK ToK by Ke$ha

#2 song of the dayTop 10 Songs: TiK ToKTiK ToK now finds itself at #2 on our list of top ten songs.

In a review on 2010-02-04 entitled So terrible., julehlers wrote, “I honestly do not get why this song is so popular. She can’t sing at all, the lyrics are beyond inane, the vocoder is irritating. Everything about it is grating and horrible. If this is the future of music, I’m going to stop listening to the radio now. I can’t imagine anything worse than this. Whoever signed her to a record label should be covering their face in shame and embarrassment.” This listener gave TiK ToK a 1 star rating.

On 2010-01-29, this reviewer said: “I got this only because it was #1 on the charts at the time, which also made me belive that 16 yr old girls comprise this list. Overall its an ok song, maybe a remix of it would be better. Can artists use real letters in their names anymore? They are turning into hacker names.” This person named their review tik tok and they gave TiK ToK a 3 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-23 entitled This song grew on me, wintersongs wrote, “Initially, I was turned off by her whiny high-pitched voice in the first lines of the song. Every time those opening lines came on the radio, I totally rolled my eyes because it sounded like Ke$ha was sneering at me with an obnoxious party attitude. But since my local radio station played it a million times a day, I got used to her voice and talking/singing style and eventually got past the annoyance. The rest of the song is actually a decent dance pop song. Auto-Tune is very noticeably used. Naturally like many other dance pop songs, it’s about partying and clubbing. The name dropping of Mick Jagger stood out in an odd way though but that’s minor. The vibe of this song is more like dirty hard partying, and the video totally reflects that. I’ve grown to like this song, but it’s not my favorite that’s being played on the radio these days. ” This listener gave TiK ToK a 4 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-04 entitled Amazon.com really?, cnn1220 wrote, “Great song but I’m not paying this. I can’t belive you’re charging the same price as iTunes. I come here so I don’t have to pay their greed. So disappointing. ” This listener gave TiK ToK a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-04, this reviewer said: “Lady GaGa blew in a funky new genre of music, (I mean that in a bad way) I like to refer to it as, Skank-Pop. This just like all of GaGa’s music is good for nothing more than grinding on crazy stupid drunk chicks in the club, and even they wouldn’t like this song unless they were crazy stupid drunk! Auto-tuned to death with the kind of lyrics that make us of the male race treat females like skanks. You want to know why some men expect you lady’s to put out on the first date, and expect a more in depth conversation from a brick wall than from you, this is why. Your own kind is leading you all farther back into the times, soon men are going to try to take back your rights to vote and work! Ke$ha and “musicians” like her should be shot in the vocal chords!

Don’t believe she sucks…

“…boys tryin’ to touch my junk…”

“Junk”, yep, she said, “junk”. o_O Who says “junk”!?” This person named their review Skank-Pop at it’s best. and they gave TiK ToK a 2 star rating.

On 2010-01-30, this reviewer said: “Sedaka previewed this song last year at a live show in Vegas. The crowd went crazy for it and Sedaka was clearly enjoying himself. If you ever get the chance to see him in person, don’t miss it. Besides the oldies, he does everything from classical to salsa. He receives multiple standing ovations at every concert. Sedaka is full of surprises and this song is a prime example. Music of My Life” This person named their review Sedaka is Amazing and they gave Do You Remember? a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-30, this reviewer said: “one word>> ALIVE

wow I love this new song!! NEil sings clearly and with ease…What a great talent!!!…….He style is so personal . I LOVE YOU NEIL…………” This person named their review big fan of SEDAKA and they gave Do You Remember? a 5 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-28 entitled Superior New Music from Veteran Artist!, bookbag14 wrote, “Wonderful new song from the legendary Neil Sedaka! I just downloaded it for FREE (from Amazon). However, the quality of the song is well worth paying $ for. It’s amazing that Neil Sedaka, still, hits those marvelous high notes just as good as he did four or five decades ago! I think this will be some of the best music for the year 2010. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!” This listener gave Do You Remember? a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-26, this reviewer said: “I saw Sedaka perform this on Fox News Channel’s “Huckabee” over the weekend. It was so alive & rhythmic, I started tapping my feet and immediately enjoyed the song — even when he switched from English to Spanish (I don’t generally enjoy music if I can’t understand the language), but it all fit together nicely.

Great song to just listen to, or dance to — you decide!

The price is right — but even paying for it would be worth it!

Enjoy!” This person named their review Another Super Song from Sedaka! and they gave Do You Remember? a 5 star rating.

Bad Romance by Lady Gaga

#4 song of the dayTop 10 Songs: Bad RomanceBad Romance maneuvers into #4 on our list and is consistently one among the top 10 pop songs this week. People have many thoughts on this song. You can listen to it and provide your own feedback by clicking the link below.

In a review on 2010-01-23 entitled Another hit for Lady Gaga, wintersongs wrote, “Lady Gaga has a serious knack for coming up with fun melodies and a feel-good beat, even on a song with a dark content like “Bad Romance.” Having said that, her voice is low and rich and a treat to listen to. I’ve heard some of her other songs (”Poker Face,” “Lovegame,” “Eh Eh,” “Just Dance,” “Paparazzi”) and her singing on this song is by far my favorite. I love that she sings in her lower register, which completely fits the dark and bizarre mood of the lyrics. But she still manages to accompany the lyrics with a fun, upbeat melody and romping production that hook the listener in. Brilliant.” This listener gave Bad Romance a 5 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-04 entitled The original…uncensored!, mrzmeg wrote, “Very catchy, fun tune—fantastic work-out song, just like most of Lady Gaga’s other stuff. Unlike the album version currently being sold, this version is uncensored.” This listener gave Bad Romance a 5 star rating.

In a review on 2009-12-16 entitled Lady Gaga ROCKS!, hyunzee wrote, “Commanding song, fantastic voice full of character, how can you not want to sing along and get up and dance? She pushes the envelope just shy of too much, and does it with so much style and catchiness. She is one of a kind and she totally rocks!” This listener gave Bad Romance a 5 star rating.

In a review on 2009-11-21 entitled A Re-worked Version Of Poker Face:, chucksenescall wrote, “It’s a bit disappointing to see a recording artist do this kind of thing — Bad Romance is obviously a re-worked version of Poker Face — I really would have liked to hear something truly new. Both songs (Poker Face & Bad Romance) clock-in at 119 beats per minute, both are in the key of Am, both have the same producer, the “m-m-m-ma” of Poker Face is plainly re-worded into new (but similar) jabberwocky and placed next to the chorus as if a Poker Face cookie-cutter was all one needed to ship platinum anymore….

It’s clear that Gaga is a fan of movie director Alfred Hitchcock: she sings, “I want your PSYCHO, your VERTIGO schtik, want you in my REAR WINDOW…” I don’t know if this was intentional or not — the naming of films here by the same director seems a bit too cute to be accidental. I half expected to see THE BIRDS swoop in from NORTH BY NORTHWEST in the video, with a TORN CURTAIN thrown in for good measure.

The production here is first-rate, and is a fine lead-off single for this 8-song unit between albums — and I have little doubt the song will strike platinum — I can think of at least a half-dozen solid ways to re-mix this; a ballad version could even be built in A minor from what I’ve heard here and sell strongly — but Gaga, if you’re reading this, let me tell you something: if you intend to have a career, you better drop the idea of selling the same record over and over and over. The public will only buy that for so long.

” This listener gave Bad Romance a 4 star rating.

On 2009-11-13, this reviewer said: “Lady GaGa - Bad Romance is her best song yet. This crazy woman has impressed me from Day 1. I love her voice, her tacky style, and her addictive music. She is the real deal underneath all that glitz and she plays piano by ear - how hot is that?! Bad Romance will keep you coming back for more, goo goo gaga!” This person named their review “I don’t wanna be friends!” and they gave Bad Romance a 5 star rating.

All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) by Curt Smith

#5 song of the dayTop 10 Songs: All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating)All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) finds itself at #5 on our list and has achieved a solid ranking in our list of top ten songs today. Does this song deserve its place on the list? Read these reviews and find out!

In a review on 2010-02-03 entitled On Listening To “All Is Love”, stellar808 wrote, “The song by Curt Smith featuring Zoë Keating is a finely woven mix of modern and traditional instrumentation wth expressive and expansive compositional motifs. As the Rock genre reaches into the 21st Century seasoned listeners being introduced to a new song can often find it like reaching into a memory or a feeling established by some past time when music brought a new emotion to life. Within or outside the legacy of Tears For Fears, the open and sensitive listener will find several touches of the familiar mixed with the new in Curt Smith’s “All Is Love”.

If permitted to bring our suitcases of musical pasts as listeners with Curt Smith, we recognize a fine thoughtful moment distinct with self reflection opens in the lyrics, “Look what you’ve done…”. The expression hangs with tones of regret in passing moment or past contrition. This familiar touchstone comes forward to remind the listener our childhoods are always with us. We react to the statement as though it were a question. Now as adults, many of us as parents, a reflexive “What have we done?” comes to mind and the suggestion to “look”.

In understanding the beginning of Curt Smith within Tears For Fears, the question remain the same, how are making life better for another generation? What have we done when faced within the cycle of parent to child to the issue of the upbringing, the shaping of another life?

The introduction opens with delicate pensive vocals set against the cello of Zoë Keating and strikes a classical tone that never really dips into melancholy but rather a mild dissonant introspection and the glances of our human foibles. As the piece unfolds we find moments of questions that confront us, the renown reminders of humanity sewn into many songs either from Smith or Tears For Fears in whole. Then the piece reaches out with a warm chorus. A complex sting arrangement reaching back into the oeuvre of TFF as certain touches reminiscent of Lennon and McCartnery chord progressions have settled into the world around us. Reminders of who has come before us as artists and musicians -a reverb from that past that continues to touch lives, ensconced here and other arrangements with respect and dignity of our origins of a collective musical consciousness.

“Love for everyone” becomes a lyrical theme that repeats not with romantic limitations but the wish for a world where the love from homes in harmony will also bring a world closer to harmony. A psychological motif clearly familiar from the earliest messages within the legacy of Tears For Fears brought forward in this piece by Smith.

The really unique thing about this piece for me is the way the electronics and signal processing tilt and sway with contrasting textures to the acoustical elements of the cello, piano and orchestral parts. The modern, the now is still given thought and attention for those of us listening for “pet sounds”. The piece is beautifully arranged and a sense of time of this creation is somehow not lost in the track time itself. Clearly, the thoughtful moments over the span that this creation came to life arrive with a sense of attention to detail with the larger, longer questions of how to give a piece such as this a full, rich, yet buoyant and poignant emotional package are met.

I as a listener feel only a sense of chagrin that this single is not the seemingly the preview of a larger body of work treated in this same manner of artfulness. May an album be forthcoming. Regards and for one and all that had a hand in the making and especially the featured talent of Zoë Keating.” This listener gave All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) a 5 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-25 entitled Worth The Wait, dcricks wrote, “Much thanks to Curt and the wonderful gift of music he has given us over the past 20 plus years. This is a perfect example of classic Curt Smith work. He is always looking to work with new and up coming artist, not to may artist out there that do this. I have had the pleasure to meeting Curt many times over the years. Every time I see him its like talking to an old friend and catching up. He is so down to earth and is such a great family man. Cheers to you Papa Smith. Onwards and upwards. Looking forward to more music. Cheers to Zoë Keating. I wish you all the best.. Cheers, Danny C. Las Vegas, NV 20 + years fan.” This listener gave All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-25, this reviewer said: “All Is Love is the perfect amalgamation of classic Curt Smith with a classical cello. All at once it’s sweet and hopeful, positive and forward thinking. Curt’s mellow, melodic voice is soothing and amazing. I could listen again and again, and say “Bravo, Curt” and “Please might I have another?”" This person named their review New Ear Candy! and they gave All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-24, this reviewer said: “Everyone has one of those songs that they just love to play over and over and over again. The kind that if it were an old 45 you would have to buy a new one to replace it… well this is one of those songs. You can play this one in the background all day long and never be tired of it and then still find yourself humming it later on! And the lyrics… probably not the way he meant… but with all that is going on in Haiti right now… even more special. “Hold on tight everyone… We’ll all reach out to touch someone… They’ll be love for everyone” ” This person named their review Another amazing song from Curt Smith! and they gave All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-24, this reviewer said: “All Is Love is another fantastic track from Tears For Fears co-founder Curt Smith. The layered arrangement, held at bay by the wonderful cello of Zoe Keating, is lush and Curt’s voice soars effortlessly over it all. If this is a hint at what to expect as a followup to Halfway, Pleased, we are definitely in for something special.” This person named their review Another fantastic track! and they gave All Is Love (featuring Zoë Keating) a 5 star rating.

Fireflies by Owl City

#6 song of the dayTop 10 Songs: FirefliesFireflies earns spot #6 on the list of top 10 songs of the day. Want to know what others think? Let’s see the latest reviews!

On 2010-01-29, this reviewer said: “Owl City is an insult to all music and one man bands.

First, the lyrics are horrid and unintentially funny.

“I get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs as they teach me how to dance”

What the heck?

Next, I hate the way this kid sings. His voice sounds like a robot and he pronounces his words in an anoying way. The beat in the background sounds cheap. This song was created on a computer I’m not kidding.

In conclusion, this is an insult to one man bands who had to work their butts off and didn’t recieve their fame this easily and fast.

Owl City needs to go up and apoligize to Prince and Todd Rundgren who worked hard for their fame and really played all of their intruments. Disgusting!

1/5 Stars” This person named their review One Of The Worst Songs Of 2009 and they gave Fireflies a 1 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-24 entitled Nice Song, Simple Lyrics, astradaemon wrote, “I bought this song specifically for my 4yr old son. He’s heard it on the car radio, and the lyrics were easy for him to memorize. I’m just happy that he can listen to a song that’s not about sex, drinking or shooting people — and the bonus is that it’s not Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers, etc.

The video is also pretty cute with the toys coming to life. I know nothing else about Owl City, or Postal Service, but I do think this is a great song.” This listener gave Fireflies a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-06, this reviewer said: “I can’t stomach this mindless pre-teen pop crud. The singer’s digitalized high breathy voice is annoying as he spews this unimaginative sing-songy exercise in rhyming. It’s just the latest example of how musical audiences have lost their ear for great music with clear, quality voices, pianos, strings, brass, and percussion in favor of cheesy, disposable ditties. It’s all about the gimmicky electronic, over-processed vocals used to disguise the singer’s inability to carry a tune in a bucket. The avoidance of actual musical instruments means that anyone with a Casio keyboard and a less than mediocre voice can crank out a “hit” song. I’d like to hear this guy sing live with a real piano, or some other actual non-electric instrument, and see just how he really sounds. Chances are, you wouldn’t find him gracing the airwaves.” This person named their review Low grade bubblegum puke! and they gave Fireflies a 1 star rating.

On 2009-12-23, this reviewer said: “I totally recommend this C.D. If you want some chill music to listen too (on your way to work, after a long day), throw this into your C.D. player, sit back, and enjoy!!” This person named their review Best CD and they gave Fireflies a 5 star rating.

On 2009-12-22, this reviewer said: “Have none of these people reviewing this ever heard of Postal Service? I don’t even like Postal Service, but Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) should at least get credit for writing this music over 5 years ago!” This person named their review Seriously? and they gave Fireflies a 1 star rating.

In a review on 2010-02-05 entitled “God Damn, I Miss That Girl”, prochnow@mitre.org wrote, “Mr. E sings with his heart on his sleeve. As he sings (presumably to a bird on his porch), you can feel his struggles with a bad breakup. Though the song itself is not complex, it is elegant in its simplicity. Some people might find the subject matter depressing, but he does offer some optimism as well, realizing that “it’s gonna mend” though he “can’t take on very much” for the time being.” This listener gave Little Bird a 5 star rating.

Party In The U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus

#10 song of the dayTop 10 Songs: Party In The U.S.A.Party In The U.S.A. enjoys a ranking of #10 and this week is being voted up as one of the top ten songs on the radio. Let’s see what others had to say:

On 2010-01-31, this reviewer said: “I bought this for my daughter. She’s eight. If I hear this song one more time there is a good chance I will explode. I find myself praying for death whenever it starts. By the time she gets to that whole “I put my hands up they’re playing my song the butterflies fly away AAAAUUUGGGHHH!!!” I start looking for a bus to jump in front of, but wouldn’t you know it, there are no routes on my street. I have a gun and could just end it all that way but, you know, the whole mess in the house and all, and my wife is busy with school and cleaning up would be a bummer for her. Same with pills - I don’t want to go out with a big flurry of barf and convulsions, although there’s a chance I may go that way anyway if this freaking song starts one more freaking time…

You know, if there was a way to do it and take Billy Ray with me I’d do it in a heartbeat - serves him right for inflicting this little monster on us. You got that Billy Ray? It’s your fault, man. All on you. YOU!

WAIT! Drowning! I could do that, I think. Can’t hear the music under the water, either. Hmm…

Oh, my daughter loves the song, BTW. Says it’s the coolest ever. Said I had to give it five stars, so there’s that.

I wonder if she’ll miss me?” This person named their review Please God, take me now… and they gave Party In The U.S.A. a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-23, this reviewer said: “Catchy Pop tune they way they used to make em in the 60’s and 70’s ..and early 80’s.” This person named their review Catchy Pop Tune and they gave Party In The U.S.A. a 5 star rating.

On 2010-01-21, this reviewer said: “I think Miley picked a great song to show some style diversity without alienating her existing fan base. Miley has fantastic range and voice quality which drives the hook in the chorus. Currently, this release is in the top 20 of MP3 downloads so others must agree.” This person named their review Good job of Miley showing some diversity! and they gave Party In The U.S.A. a 4 star rating.

On 2010-01-14, this reviewer said: “”Party in the USA” hopefully won’t become a July 4th staple like Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.” When it comes to flag-waving, I’ll take the Star Spangled Banner any day. This land is your land, this land is my land,my goodness this song is bland. “Party in the USA” is basically about taking a taxi ride and listening to various pop artists. This song is going to be dated very soon–in a sense,it’s already anachronistic. 40 years from now, will people still listening to Jay-Z and Britney Spears, like they do The Beatles Stereo Box Set?

“Party in the USA” also introduces us to Miley Cyrus’ odd ways of singing. When she belts out “a Jay-Z song was oooon,a Jay-Z song was o-o–on”,she sounds like she’s being tickled,or something. “Party in the USA” ought to be musically rejected by all those who love our beautiful country.” This person named their review Team America: World Pablum and they gave Party In The U.S.A. a 1 star rating.

In a review on 2010-01-04 entitled Not Such A Party, kernermichael wrote, “When it has came down to Miley Cyrus, she honestly hasn’t been as driven as being so much of a tween act. With her latest single, Party In The U.S.A., from her Time Of Our Lives EP, isn’t really a interesting song. She honestly has been a bit overdone with her music. Sadly, I wasn’t very thrilled with the song after awhile. It has recently gotten very tiring after awhile. While Miley may have grown herself out of her Hannah Montana role, unfortunately after The Climb, she hasn’t fully grown up musically. Hopefully, with her next full-length record or song that comes out, Miley can prove to have a much more driven song. This Party In The U.S.A. has gotten to be a bit overdone for me.

Song: D+” This listener gave Party In The U.S.A. a 2 star rating.
